Harold's of Homewood to Offer Discounts During Chicago Black Restaurant Week

Halsted Avenue business will be one of 23 Chicagoland eateries part of a promotion to help black-owned businesses.

CHICAGO, IL - A Homewood eatery is taking part in Chicago Black Restaurant Week, a weeklong event in its second year with a goal to promote black-owned restaurants in Chicagoland by offering discounts to those who dine there.

Harold’s Chicken of Homewood, at 18044 South Halsted, will be among 23 restaurants taking part in CBRW, which will begin on Sunday, Feb. 12 and end on Sunday, Feb. 19 this year.

The 23 participating businesses this year are up from the 17 that took part in the inaugural event in 2016, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Diners at Harold’s that week will be able to chose between a 7-wing meal for $7.17 and a 24-win meal for $24.17. Both deals have fries, coleslaw, bread and a drink included.

“I heard about it last year and thought it was something new and different - so I wanted to be a part of it,” said Brandon Leak, owner of Harold’s of Homewood. “I think it’s a good thing and knew we could do it.”

According to the Tribune, Chicago Black Restaurant Week is the brainchild of Lauran Smith, a social media specialist who wanted a way to honor Negro History Week, which was a precursor to Black History Month.

Flavor Brunch ‘N Bar at 17575 S. Kedzie Ave. in nearby Hazel Crest is also taking part in the promotion.
