Hazel Crest Hosts Black History Celebration
Annual Art & Soul Two Day Event Highlights American Culture

HAZEL CREST — In celebration of Black History Month, the Village of Hazel Crest will present the 2019 Art & Soul Celebration on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from noon until 3:00 pm in the Village Hall Senior Room (3000 W. 170th Place, Hazel Crest). This year’s annual program is a two-part event, a visual showcase of the art done by local artist followed by performances. Guests may meet the artists, view and buy art, then enjoy entertaining performances. The inspirational and entertaining program includes spoken word poetry, song, dance, and interpretive dramatic acts. Comedian Ron Baker, Jr., who serves as Master of Ceremonies, is the perfect complement to the performances.
“On behalf of the Village Board and staff, I invite Hazel Crest families to join us for this celebration of Black History,” said Village Mayor Vernard L. Alsberry, Jr. “Each year this event continues to grow, and I look forward to seeing all that’s offered this Saturday, February 23, from noon until 3:00pm.”
Among the participants is a four year old offering her own poetic justice, a Michael Jackson impersonator, students from Mae Jemison Elementary School, a hip-hop dance troupe, and students from Prairie Hills Junior High School Advanced Art Class who have shared their artwork for display. The Open Lands Commission will also do a presentation “Trees of Africa.”
