Hidden Gem Half Marathon Comes To Flossmoor Sept. 7
Unique Event for both runners and spectators

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Whether you are a runner or spectator, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, the Hidden Gem Half Marathon in Flossmoor, Ill is the place to be. This event promises to be entertaining from start to finish. The race starts at 7:45 a.m. at Infant Jesus of Prague Church, 2733 Flossmoor Rd., when the national anthem will be sung by local resident and NBC’s The Voice finalist, Oliv Blue. There will be entertainment at every mile of the 13.1-mile course provided by the area’s neighborhoods, musicians and local entertainers. Spending the day in Flossmoor will be a unique experience you won’t want to miss, as well as a chance to discover this hidden gem, Flossmoor, Illinois.
The Hidden Gem Half Marathon has been embraced by the entire community, with everyone contributing to make the day memorable. During the run, the six Flossmoor neighborhoods will each have themed parties ranging from Comic Book Heroes to The Wizard of Oz. Runners will proceed through the Homewood/Flossmoor High School campus, and the high school’s drumline, cheerleaders, steppers, dance teams and marching band will perform along the marathon route. Golf courses, various churches, and the world-renowned Sculpture Park are all part of the route. Other entertainment includes Sounds of Illinois Brass Choir, DJ Fidel Calderon, plays put on by area performers, and fitness demonstrations. The local microbrewery Flossmoor Station Restaurant and Brewery has even created a limited-edition Hidden Gem Grolsch to share with each runner at the finish line. After the run stay and enjoy the Village of Flossmoor Fest.

This unique event is a production of a citizen action committee called Flossmoor’s Future, whose goal is to showcase the hidden gem of Flossmoor. The committee was established in 2018 and organized the Hidden Gem Half Marathon as their first event. The Hidden Gem Half Marathon is certified by the United States Track and Field and recognized by The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARTA), and the race is perfectly timed for anyone training for the upcoming Chicago Marathon.
Runners from 15 states have registered to compete, including an elite class of Olympic-caliber runners competing for the $3,500 cash purse. There is still time to register for the run at https://www.hiddengemhalf.com/.
