Hillcrest Has Much to Offer in the "College Zone"
This area of Hillcrest High School is dedicated to promoting college and career awareness
As Hillcrest High School students walk down the corridor between the yellow and blue hallways, they will notice newly hung pennants and banners of various colleges and university hanging from the rafters in the school’s “College Zone.” Four years ago, the school hung signage for every teacher and administrator which list the colleges and/or universities they have graduated from as well as their major and the type of degree received. Shortly after, the guidance counselors began to include letters of acceptance and/or scholarship offers for graduating seniors, placing them on display in the College Zone. The display case also holds a scholarship meter that is updated to show the total dollar amount of scholarships offers from the senior graduating class.
The College Zone is located in the corridor that leads to the Library/Information Media Center (IMC). This year’s additions include pennants and banners from big ten universities, the military, as well as historically black colleges and universities. Principal, Dr. Renee Simms stated, “This area of Hillcrest High School is dedicated to promoting college and career awareness. We want to expose our students, in as many ways as possible, to the wide array of colleges and universities from which they can choose to attend. As students find out about new schools, they can conduct research on those schools in the College and Career Center as well as feel free to ask any staff member about schools they may have attended.
