It must be springtime if Ms. Bucci’s Honors Algebra students are launching water rockets on the lawn at Hillcrest High School! In what has become a Hillcrest warm-weather tradition, math teacher Ms. Kara Bucci took her Honors Algebra 1 students outside to teach quadratic equations by launching water rockets. The students measure the initial height and the time each rocket is in the air, and then use properties of quadratic equations to calculate how high the rocket went. Several students wrote that they learned that quadratic equations can be used in real life situations. Student Michael Bell wrote that he learned that problems are more difficult in real life because you're not working with nice, round numbers.
