Hillcrest HS Bands Have Busy Spring Season

A trip to the 'Music in the Parks Festival' in Ohio wraps up a busy season

The Hillcrest Marching and Concert Bands have had an exciting and eventful spring season. Upon returning from spring break, both bands were featured performers at the Prairie Hills, Jr. High Spring Concert. “The Prairie Hill students were so excited to see what Hillcrest High School has to offer them musically,” said Mrs. Valeaka Freeman, Hillcrest High School Band Director. That same weekend, the band members traveled to Rich East High School to compete in the IHSA Musical Organization Tournament. Hillcrest achieved a Division II Excellent rating. “The band members practiced for hours to perform at this level,” said Freeman. Ending the month on a high note, the marching and concert bands had the awesome opportunity to perform at “Music in the Parks Festival” at Kings Island amusement park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Competing against high school bands from across the country, the band earned a 4th Place trophy in concert band, and 2nd Place trophy in its parade band showcase. “The whole trip was eventful! We marched in the parade and then were able to experience the exhilarating roller coasters of the park,” said Marquise Roundy, Hillcrest Drum Major. “I am proud of the band member’s commitment to achieve such a high level of musical performances,” said Freeman.
