Hillcrest HS Celebrates 'Junior Week'

Educational opportunities, presentations, and guided assistance with career plans were highlighted

Hillcrest High School’s junior students recently participated in an exciting week of educational opportunities, presentations, and guided assistance with career plans. This week long educational experience was held in the Instructional Media Center (IMC) and provided the students with ideas for developing post-secondary career goals. The Chicagoland Regional College Program came to speak about United Parcel Service (UPS) and their partnership with seven Illinois schools (UPS employs students and assists with tuition). Hillcrest High School College Advisor Ms. Jessica Schraft guided the students with ACT registration and composing personal statements. Representatives from South Suburban College and Robert Morris University did presentations about the wide-range of opportunities that each institution has to offer. “The Hillcrest students really enjoyed all the presentations and often stated that they were more confident about going to college,” said Ms. Schraft. The culmination of the week was a visit from Joshua Harris from Harris Branding. Mr. Harris and a group of Hillcrest alumni held a panel discussion all day and talked about life after high school, finding a job, going to college, and ‘real life.’ Their program is called “100 Mentors” and their mission is to help find the greatness within your business, organization, and inside yourself.
