Hillcrest HS Culinary Class Hosts One Day Restaurant

Gumbo and sweet potato pie were just some of the items on the menu

The Hillcrest High School Advanced Food Preparation and Catering class hosted a one day restaurant to demonstrate their developing culinary and food service skills. The students enjoyed being creative by planning the menu of gumbo, cheesy shrimp and grits, pulled pork, sweet potato pie, key lime pie, and banana pudding. They measured ingredients, chopped meat and vegetables, and utilized proper sanitary skills. Over 75 students, teachers, and administrators dined on the feast. “Every food preparation student contributed and worked diligently. Whether behind the scenes or in the ’restaurant,’ they were all a part of developing the mouthwatering feast,” stated Ms. Jean Sweeney, Hillcrest Culinary Arts Teacher. “I was proud of their enthusiasm and devotion to produce a well-designed culinary treat for the guests,” stated Sweeney.
