Hillcrest HS Drama Group to Present 'Emma'

Performance on Friday, November 20 at 6pm

The Hillcrest Drama Group is proud to announce the production of its fall play, Emma! A Pop Musical by Eric Price, a modern re-telling of the Jane Austen novel, Emma. “Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep, is certain she knows what’s best for her classmates’ love lives, and is determined to find the perfect boyfriend for shy sophomore Harriet by the end of the school year. But will Emma’s relentless matchmaking get in the way of finding her own happiness? Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, this sparkling new musical features the hit songs of legendary girl groups and iconic female singers from The Supremes to Katy Perry. Girl power has never sounded so good!” (playscripts.com)

English teacher and Drama Group Director Mr. Gregory Fitch said, “Emma! does exactly what the Musical genre does best: wraps a serious theme in glitz, glamour, and pizazz. This story which considers a main character who believes she understands everything recognizes that anyone can be blind to what is right in front of him or her. Incorporating modern and classic pop songs, Emma! invitingly draws the audience in to a good time with heart. The angst to find one’s soulmate has rarely been so entertaining.”

Fine Arts teacher Mrs. Jamilah Adebesin-Mason returns as Artistic Director and is collaborating with members of the Hillcrest Art Society to assist with costume design and prop creation. Mr. Michael Macabobby, Technical Director, will provide stage/lighting and prop design with the help with several Hillcrest students.
