Hillcrest HS FCCLA Students Earn Medals at Regional Competition

Jaday Coleman and Monique Rias earned First Place Most Outstanding in the Children's Literature category

The Hillcrest Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students participated in the Regional competition at Olivet Nazarene University. FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12.

Jaday Coleman and Monique Rias earned First Place Most Outstanding in the Children’s Literature catagory. Mashell Rush, Kelci Phason, Leah Booker and Anaye O’Neal also competed in the Children’s Literature category. Mashell and Kelci were awarded First Place after competing against 15 other schools from region. They demonstrated appropriate oral pitch, tempo, and volume. Leah and Anaye received Second Place in the Children’s Literature category.

“The students worked extremely hard preparing for this competition. They read and studied many types of literature and I am proud of all the effort the group put into their skills,” said Ms. Michelle Youngberg, Hillcrest Teacher and Sponsor.

Nathanial Perry placed second in the Job Interview event, and Bryant Wright placed second in the Frosted Cakes event.

FCCLA’s moto is “To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education.”
