Hillcrest HS Hosts Family Reading Night

Guests enjoyed the talents of students and staff members

Hillcrest High School recently held "Family Reading Night” in the school's library. The community was invited to a “Readers' Theater” where a group of students and staff combined their talents to perform different types of oral readings. Performances included students from Mr. Fitch's English class, Flight Poetry club, and the award-winning Mock Trial team. The audience had the pleasure of listening to the students and staff perform dramatic poetry readings, simulations of the closing arguments from the Dunn v. Davies Mock Trial competition, the African Flag Pledge, a Dr. Seuss story, and an interactive fairy tale. Three Culinary Club students were recognized for their support and help at Hillcrest Family Reading Night during the past four years: Terrance Powell, Sa'Kiya Leach and Kierra Jarmon. National Honor Society members assisted with the set-up and cleanup for the event and the Culinary Club prepared and served refreshments. Family Reading Nights are an example of the school's community outreach. The evening promotes the lifelong love of reading and literacy. “The evening was entertaining and engaging thanks to our special guest from our community library, many Hillcrest students, and faculty members,” stated Mrs. Walsh Hillcrest Media Specialist.
