Hillcrest HS Key Club Participates in Community Outreach Day
Students volunteered at KinderCare and Victory Centre of Sierra Ridge
The Hillcrest Key Club members participated in Community Outreach Day by spending time at KinderCare and Victory Centre of Sierra Ridge. Students spent the morning at KinderCare child care center reading to the children, playing board games, and enjoying play time. Then they traveled to Victory Centre of Sierra Ridge Assisted Living Home to spend the afternoon playing Bingo and other games with the residents. "It was so great to get out into our community and let them know that Hillcrest cares,” said senior Kelsey Martin. The Key Club donated over three dozen books, which were collected by faculty and staff, as well as stuffed animals to go with the story books. The staff also contributed with prizes for the games. Anhia Ricks said, "The kids were super excited when they realized we were actually leaving all the books with them." Ms. Trench, Key Club Sponsor stated, "Watching or students interact and brings so much joy to the little ones and the elders brought the biggest smile to my face. They represented Hillcrest very well." Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. Community Outreach Day is a global program that gives students the opportunity to get involved in community service with projects and activities to assist their communities. Projects are student-led and are offered at a variety of agencies.
