Hillcrest HS Marching Band Performs in Indianapolis
The band performed with the Sparkling Elite Dance Team at the Circle City Classic parade
The Hillcrest Marching Band was invited to perform as the marching band for the Sparkling Elite Dance Team of Indianapolis, Indiana, at the annual Indianapolis Circle City Classic parade. According to circlecityclassic.com, “The Circle City Classic Parade is one of the most well-attended and sought after events during the annual fundraiser presented by Indiana Black Expo.”
The Marching Hawks traveled to Indianapolis early on a Saturday morning and marched the parade route in front of a crowd of spectators in the tens of thousands from all over the country. The event was broadcast on several local television channels including WHMB TV-40.
The students performed well, bringing pride to Hillcrest and its band program. Students were able to bring their talents to a wider community while uniting through the music.

Senior Brandon Harper thought it was a great experience because the students got to see how other bands perform: “We did a battle of the bands, and the other band had their Drum Majors conduct the whole time while we [Drum Majors] would dance during the songs.”
The Hillcrest Marching Hawks continue to soar bringing their sound and exuberance to audiences all over. For more information on the Hillcrest Band Program, please contact Director Valeaka Freeman at VFreeman@bhsd228.com.
