Hillcrest HS Mock Trail Team Participates in Law Day at SSC
Students observed attorneys presenting a criminal case to the Justices
The Hillcrest Mock Trial Team recently participated in South Suburban College Law Day. Students participated in various activities, including observing a real Appellate Court hearing where the attorneys presented a criminal case to the Justices. Due to their trial experience, the Hillcrest students understood the trial court terminology and were able to direct detailed questions to the attorneys and justices after the hearing. “I learned that juveniles can be jailed for a long time without rehabilitation. There are still things in the Court system that need to be fixed and I hope we can do this in the future,” said Tondalaha Davis, student attorney on the team. Students also learned about other jobs available in the law profession, including how a crime scene investigation is reported, and saw a demonstration of court reporting executed in real time. “This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to see the different job opportunities in law. We want to thank Jason Cieslak, South Suburban College Law Day program coordinator, for organizing this event and including our students,” said Ms. Caroline Snyder, team sponsor.
