Hillcrest HS Mock Trial Team Wins ISBE Invitational

The Illinois State Bar Association Invitational was held at U of I Law School in Champaign

Great news!!! The Hillcrest High School Mock Trial Team won the 2016 ISBA (Illinois State Bar Association) High School Mock Trial Invitational that was recently held at the U of I Law School in Champaign. The team faced two rival high schools and completed a law test sponsored by the Illinois State Bar Association. Hillcrest won both of their cases! In the first round, they competed against Willowbrook High School, located in Villa Park. In the second round, they competed against Glenbard East High School, located in Lombard. “Going to State to compete gave me the opportunity to see how my teammates and I perform under pressure. It was great meeting new people and to learn my strengths and weaknesses from my evaluators,” said Hillcrest Junior Faith Durden. Two Hillcrest students were recognized by the ISBA for their outstanding performance at trial. Lardell Clark was awarded outstanding Plaintiff’s attorney while Darlena York was awarded outstanding Defense attorney. “Going to State was an eye opening experience. It was good to interact with different people and see the different ways the case could be presented,” said Lardell Clark. The team had previously won the South Suburban ISBA Regional Competition sponsored by the Sixth Municipal District that was held at South Suburban College in South Holland. The team was assisted by the South Suburban Bar Association to attend the State competition. A special thanks to Mr. Greg Fitch for assisting with this special trip and a huge congratulations to team sponsor Ms. Caroline Snyder and the Hillcrest students for this outstanding achievement.
