Hillcrest HS One Day Restaurant a Big Success
'La Hawks Cucina' welcomed faculty, staff, administrators and board members for a delicious meal
The Culinary Management "One Day Restaurant" was open for business recently at Hillcrest High School for students to demonstrate their culinary skills to faculty, staff, administrators and Bremen District 228 School Board members. The students in the Culinary Management class experienced firsthand the skills needed to run a restaurant for a day. This semester’s theme was "La Hawks Cucina" or “The Hawks Kitchen”. On the appetizer menu was chips with homemade salsa and guacamole. For the entrée, customers had a choice of a beef taco salad, cheese quesadilla plate, beef taco plate, or homemade beef tamales plate. Dessert for the guests was a choice of Mexican flan, fruit salsa with cinnamon chips, or chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. "This one day restaurant experience for our students gives them real world experience in the running a restaurant," stated teacher Jean Sweeney. Guests could choose from two seating times. This gave the students two opportunities to practice their skills. The students working in the “front of the house and back of the house” worked together to make the day a success. Thank you to Mrs. Sweeny and all of the “chefs in training” for such a splendid occasion!
