Hillcrest HS Students Apply for Election Judge Positions
The First Judge Program recruits high school students to participate in the election process

Approximately 80 Hillcrest students applied for election judge positions with the Cook County Board of Elections Presidential Primary to be held on March 15, 2016. Students applied through the Cook County First Judge program, which recruits high school students to participate in the election process. The students serve as election judges and share the same responsibilities as their older counterparts, including opening polling places, supervising voting, instructing voters about proper voting techniques, and counting votes after the polls close. Over 60 Hillcrest students served as judges last year in the gubernatorial election and all were asked to return for the Illinois Presidential Primary election. Hillcrest students that will serve come from the communities of Country Club Hills, Hazel Crest, and Markham. Students will be trained for their positions by the Cook County Board of Elections and will be placed in precincts throughout the south suburbs. “Our goal in Social Studies is to promote student involvement in government and create lifelong voters”, said, Ms. Caroline Snyder, Student Judge Faculty Recruiter for Hillcrest High School.
