Hillcrest HS Students Volunteer at Chicago Food Depository
The Chicago Food Depository distributes over 160,000 meals every day
Hillcrest High School’s Interact Club, Sophomore Leadership, and SOAR groups recently partnered to perform volunteer work at the Chicago Food Depository. The Chicago Food Depository distributes over 160,000 meals every day and has a network of over 700 agencies and programs, including pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters. Each student was assigned a specific job and were able to see the manufacturing process in action. Through this process, they gained an understanding of how each task is integral to achieving the overall goal. Not only did the Hillcrest Hawks meet their goal but they also repacked a total of 1,414 bags of black beans, exceeding the goal by 414! Students enjoyed the volunteer experience and they were very proud of themselves for their contribution to help feed the hungry.
