Hillcrest HS's Ahnia Ricks Attends Girls Who Code Program

Girls Who Code is working to close the gender gap in technology

Hillcrest High School senior Ahnia Ricks (Class of 2017) participated in the 2015 Summer Immersion program – Girls Who Code. Girls Who Code is a national non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology. The 7-week program pairs computer science educators with field trips to top technology companies and mentorship from industry leaders. Girls learn everything from mobile app development to robotics to web design and ultimately get a change to build the products they want to see in the world. The program is sponsored and hosted by corporate partners from diverse sectors including Accenture, Adobe, AIG, AOL, AT&T, eBay, Facebook, GE, Goldman Sach, Google, Groupon, IAC, IBM, Intel, Intuit, Lockheed Martin, Mass Mutual, Microsoft, Moody’s, Pixar Animation Studios, Square, The Honest Company, Twitter, Viacom and Verizon. Other partners include Cover Girl, the John S and James L Knight Foundation, the Saban Family Foundation and Georgetown University. Ahnia’s team designed a website to help aspiring and current college students. The site makes it easier for prospective college students to sort through colleges by having the user provide the criteria he/she would like in a school.
