Hillcrest HS's C'Madu Wrestles at the State Series

C'Madu wrestled in the Freshman/Sophomore State Series in Springfield

Hillcrest High School is proud to announce that Sophomore Ezenna C’Madu wrestled in the Freshman/Sophomore State Series in Springfield. The Freshman/Sophomore State Series begins with almost 2,000 wrestlers entering 16 regional events to qualify for eight sectionals. The top four from each sectional compete in the State Championships at The Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.

Ezenna’s marathon began with winning several matches in one day at the Thornton Regional to qualify for the Sectional tournament. Once again, he grappled several matches at Marion Catholic High School, Sectional host, to qualify for State. “It was a test of pure endurance and strength. Ezenna never gave up; his energy level is unbelievable. He deserved to move on to the State tournament after all those matches,” stated Assistant Wrestling Coach George Hiler.

“The wrestlers at the State tournament are determined athletes. Ezenna went two and two at State. He experienced all aspects of wrestling: endurance, reversals, escapes, and pins. I was proud to witness how hard Ezenna strived for this journey,” said Coach Hiler.
