Hillcrest HS's Howard Earns TEP Student of the Year Award

The Transitional Employment Program Student of the Year is Tysiah Howard

Another successful school year is coming to an end in Ms. Meredith Madden’s Transitional Employment Program (TEP). Ms. Madden is excited to present a deserving student with the “Student of The Year Award”. TEP is a District 228 program that is available for high school students with an individual education plan (IEP). TEP is a course that is intended to further prepare and develop workplace skills by providing training essentials for students to successfully adjust to the world of work. Students are exposed to career awareness, career exploration and career development opportunities.

Students who receive this prestigious award have consistently shown characteristics of leadership, professionalism, and dependability. The ideal candidate is ambitious, hardworking, and exhibits a positive attitude. He/she works well with others and can also be trusted as a responsible independent worker. “Student of The Year” recipients are considered “ideal employees”. The awarded student receives a plaque, and his/her photo is displayed in the classroom as both a reminder and example of what their peers should strive for in the upcoming school year.

This year’s award recipient is Tysiah Howard, a graduating senior from Hillcrest High School. “From the beginning of the year, Tysiah proved to be an exceptionally hard worker. She is eager to work and takes initiative to do more than what she is asked. Her bubbly personality is contagious; she is well liked among her peers,” stated Ms. Madden. Tysiah is a fast learner, which made gaining independence at her job sites easy. At this year’s TEP Banquet, Tysiah left her classmates with encouraging words, “keep working hard and always push forward, even if you don’t always want to, your hard work will be worth it in the end”. Tysiah will be continuing her post-secondary education with District 228’s JOBS Program at South Suburban College.
