Hillcrest HS's Ricks Awarded Sheriff's Youth Service Medal of Honor

Ahnia Ricks completed over 100 hours of community service

Hillcrest High School Junior, Ahnia Ricks, was awarded the Sheriffs Youth Service Medal of Honor for her commitment to others and demonstrating good citizenship. The Medal of Honor Award Ceremony took place on December 9 at Moraine Valley Community College. “Community service has helped me build self-confidence and character. One of my favorite volunteer jobs was working at the Riegel Farm in University Park. I would feed the animals and assist in their care (sheep, goats, horses, llamas and exotic animals). I feel empowered to help my community and the individuals in need. It has changed me into a better person,” said Ahnia. Volunteers make a difference in individual lives as well as in communities. To recognize these efforts each year, Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart sponsors the Annual Sheriff’s Youth Service Medal of Honor for students in grades 9-12 who have completed 100 hours or more of voluntary community service within one year.
