Homewood to Debut Indoor Farmers Market Saturday
The market will be held the last Saturday of the month through April at Village Hall.
Farmers market fans won’t have to wait for warmer weather to indulge.
Homewood will expand its farmers market offerings, with a winter option for shoppers. The indoor farmers market will take place the last Saturday of the month through April, from 9 a.m. to noon at Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Rd.
First one is set for Jan. 31. Vendors include Sonoma Farm with oils, sauces, and salsas, gumbo from Cynthia’s Gumbo Express, also Bakewell Bakery, TJ’s Kettlecorn, Enjoi Bakery, and Homewood Kitchen Gardens.

The idea originated with Mayor Richard Hofeld, during last season’s traditional farmers market, said Kate Duff, market manager. Visitors and vendors at the end of last season were surveyed, asked if they would attend an indoor market.
The response was overwhelmingly positive.

“This first year is going to be a learning year,” Duff said. “If it’s something that people seem to really respond to, then we will build on this year to see what we can do next year.”
Other future potential vendors include one offering hydroponic vegetables, and another offering homemade pasta.
