HOMEWOOD, IL — The 12th annual Giant Block Party in the village of Homewood takes place on Saturday, Aug. 19 from noon to 9 p.m. on Martin Avenue between Ridge and Hickory roads. Here's everything you should know about the event before taking part in the celebration next weekend.
Theme
The theme of the 2017 Block Party is "Donuts Daze." Food vendors will create their own take on the tasty treat.

Fun and Games
Family-friendly activities include donut-themed games, kid-centered crafts and an adventure slide with a zipline.

Dunk Tank
A dunk tank will be open from noon to 6 p.m. It's sponsored by Dr. Lisa Grant Orthodontics, with proceeds go to Smiles Change Lives.
Schedule of Events
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Homewood Science Center Pop UP SCIENCE “Krazy for K9s”
Noon: The Spaniels Forever
Noon - 4 p.m.: Family-Friendly Activities (slide, zip line, family games and crafts)
2 to 6 p.m.: Bingo Tent
3 to 5 p.m.: Addy’s Corner
6 to 9 p.m.: The Newports
The Mayor's Take
“Summer is the perfect time to get together with friends and family," Homewood Mayor Richard Hofeld said. "Not everyone has a block party so we throw a giant one each year so anyone who wants to have fun as a community can participate."
Cost
The festival is free and open to the public.
