Homewood Resident, Flossmoor Baseball Coach John Harris Dies at 44

A beloved Homewood resident, former Flossmoor baseball coach, husband, and father of four has died.
John David Harris, 44, died February 10. Husband to Laura M. Bruni and father of Ian, Nina, Tucker and Graham, Harris was a family man also generous with his his time as a volunteer at South Suburban PADS. He felt a strong connection to and respect for the south suburbs, said Marge Seltzner, who worked with Harris and his wife at The Star newspaper.
John was a reporter, then associate editor, at The Star when he first began his newspaper career.

“He was a hard worker with a great sense of humor,” Seltzner recalled. “He was able to work his news sources well because of his pleasant demeanor and, more importantly, his honesty and sincerity in dealing with the public.
“John once told me the thing he loved most about working for a community newspaper was the opportunity to hear the stories of people who lived and worked in our region. He had a fundamental respect for our readers.”

Harris was also a passionate race car fan and outdoor enthusiast. Memorial services as well as a memorial fund will be announced at a later date.
