Katrice Matthews - Recipient of D228 Board Award for March 2016
Ms. Matthews volunteers to coach the Hillcrest HS Mock Trial Team

At the March 15, 2016 meeting, the D228 Board of Education recognized Ms. Katrice Matthews. Katrice is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where she double-majored in African and African-American studies and marketing, and minored in legal studies. Ms. Matthews attended Chicago-Kent College of Law to achieve her law degree. Ms. Matthews has chosen to give back to the community through her work including family law on behalf of low-income clients at the Chicago Legal Clinic. After graduating law school, she worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Special Litigation Bureau. Since then she realized her dream of opening and operating her own practice. She is a participant of the Chicago Bar Foundation's Justice Entrepreneurs Project and has a concerted focus on service as a neighborhood lawyer. She became involved in the Cook County Court 6th Municipal District High School Mock Trial Competition two years ago, volunteering to coach the Hillcrest High School Team. This is Katrice's second year with Hillcrest. Last year she coached them to a 4th Place finish. She has dedicated countless hours of her professional time to prepare the students for this year's competition. Her dedication and investment paid off with a 1st Place finish for Hillcrest. The Hillcrest Mock Trial Team heads to State competition at the University of Illinois Law School in April.
