LWV Homewood-Flossmoor Area to Host program on Redistricting
Guest speaker Paula Lawson will give a presentation on the Independent Map Project -- how Illinois can eliminate gerrymandering.
On Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Homewood Public Library, the League of Women Voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Area will present a program on Redistricting -- The Independent Map Project -- and how Illinois can eliminate gerrymandering and have choices for the General Assembly in our statewide elections. All residents of the area are invited to attend and hear Paula Lawson, former LWVIL president and LWVIL Issues Specialist on Redistricting and Campaign Finance Reform, speak about the current efforts of many civic organizations to obtain 600,000 signatures on petitions to get the proposed amendment proposal on the ballot of the November 8, 2016, General Election.
Paula will discuss the process, the contents of the amendment proposal and how it differs from the LWVIL effort two years ago. She will give a brief history of how the redistricting process currently works in Illinois and how the changes will make the current proposal constitutional.
The public is invited to this free program.
