Meet Flossmoor Cops At New Starbucks This Weekend

A "Coffee with a Cop" event is planned for Saturday morning at the new Starbucks on Vollmer Road.

FLOSSMOOR, IL - Residents of Flossmoor have an opportunity to meet members of the village police department during a "Coffee with a Cop" event at the new Starbucks on Vollmer Road this weekend. The national Coffee with a Cop movement aims to build trust between the public and local police departments.

It's "to give residents an opportunity to talk to police officers in an informal setting and build positive relationships outside of normal policing activities," Flossmoor Assistant Village Manager Allison Deitch said.

Deitch said Flossmoor Deputy Police Chief Tod Kamleiter and a sergeant will be at the Starbucks at 3760 Vollmer Road (Suite 101) introducing themselves to patrons between noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. Other officers may pass through if their workload allows.

There's no structure to the event. Residents can just show up and learn more about the work police do in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Deitch said this is the second Coffee with a Cop event the village has hosted. Officials with Starbucks approached the village with the idea of holding one there after they opened last month.

This is just one of several activities the village holds to "get into our community," Deitch said. Others include a National Night Out, Citizens Police Academy, DARE, Trunk or Treat, Touch a Truck, and an annual job fair at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
