Mitchell's May Be Closed All Summer Long
The longtime popular Homewood ice cream shop needs to hire a full-time manager by the end of June.

HOMEWOOD, IL -- A favorite Homewood ice cream stop won’t open this summer unless they can find a manager by the end of June. Mitchell’s Ice Cream and Candies has not been able to find a full-time front-of-the-house and merchandising manager, according to a report in the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle. Back-of-the-house production management has already been moved to a Gino’s East location in Chicago.
Mitchell’s, which has been a fixture on Dixie Highway in Homewood since 1972, has recently been closed for the winters but reopened during the summer seasons.
Information from the Homewood Chamber of Commerce indicates in order to keep that tradition going in 2017 they must hire employees whose duties would include “good front-of-house customer service, merchandising, being able to make ice cream creations, gift wrap boxes of chocolates and assuring a clean environment for customers.”
