New Surgical Advanced Care Center Opens in Hazel Crest

Doors of Advocate South Suburban Hospital’s new Center for Advanced Care opened to patients today – bringing modern facilities and enhanced capabilities for robotic and cardiac surgery to Chicago’s South Suburban community.

“We have arrived at a momentous point in the history of Advocate South Suburban Hospital and South Chicagoland,” says PSA President Rich Heim. “Advocate South Suburban’s new Center for Advanced Care will expand convenience and access to leading-edge surgery for thousands of people living on the southern tip of our service area.”

Less than 15 months after breaking ground, construction of all pre- and post-procedural care areas are complete.

“This new construction represents a $88 million investment on behalf of Advocate Aurora Health, woven into the fabric of our mission of helping people live well. Building healthier communities is our passion and we’ve devoted countless hours, contributed by the many teams that brought this project to life,” says ASSH president Rashard Johnson. “We cannot say ‘thank you’ enough to everyone who has had a hand in bringing this vision to fruition by going above and beyond, especially during these unprecedented times.”

Upcoming construction phases will transform the look and feel of the hospital’s western entrance. In addition to reconfiguring parking for easier building access, patients can look forward to a new canopied driveway and a renovated suite for GI services and minor procedures by Spring 2021. A new front lobby and administrative area are also part of next phase construction plans.

In all, the new Center for Advanced Care adds 88,000 square feet to ASSH’s footprint and much-needed space for greater efficiencies for patient care teams in the Operating Rooms, Cath Labs, Pre- and Post-Recovery space and Sterile Processing Department.
