On Thursday, May 2nd, twenty-one 7th Grade students competed at the Illinois State History Day competition. This year’s theme is Triumph and Tragedy. One of our Parker performance groups, “The Black Panthers: Violence or Justice” came in first place in the entire State of Illinois and will represent the State of Illinois in the National History Day competition, which will be held at the University of Maryland on June 9-13, 2019.

Thursday, May 2nd, a group of 7th Grade Parker Junior High School history scholars advanced to the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland being held on June 8-13, 2019. They are THE Illinois State Champions in the performance category! This year's theme is "Triumph and Tragedy" and their project is titled, "The Black Panthers: Violence or Justice?"

This is the first time in our district history that we have advanced this far. Our district is working towards partially funding this trip for the students, however, payment needs to be handled asap. This is an unexpected expense for parents as well, so they created a go fund me page in order to raise funds for the five students, two teachers, and a parent each to travel to Maryland and compete to represent Flossmoor School District 161 and have an experience of a lifetime!
