Pickup Truck Ban On The Ballot In Flossmoor

Voters in Flossmoor will be asked about a longtime ban on pickup trucks in Tuesday's election.

FLOSSMOOR, IL - The village of Flossmoor's more than half-century long ban on pickup trucks being parked outside of garages will again be the focus of a referendum on the ballot on Tuesday and for those who vote early.

The official wording of the ballot question will be:

"Should the Village of Flossmoor consider permitting a Class B truck or van (8,000 pounds or less) or a vehicle with specialty plates of a similar size as a Class B vehicle to park on a residential driveway so long as the vehicle is not used for commercial purposes?"

Though an advisory, non-binding referendum, those who vote "yes" would be in favor of allowing pickup trucks to be parked on driveways while those who vote "no" would be in favor of keeping an ordinance that was enacted in 1961 intact.

Should residents support a change, the issue would then be sent to the planning commission for consideration.
