DUI
Carl Short, 55, of the 500 block of Pleasant Drive, Glenwood, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash after a Christmas Day accident at the intersection of 183rd and Halsted streets, according to Homewood police reports.

Felony Retail Theft

Charles Hughes, 59, of the 15000 block of Honore Avenue, Harvey, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after he was accused Dec. 24 of shoplifting more than $100 worth of alcohol from Target, 17605 S. Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.
Police stopped the car Hughes was riding in at about 8:20 a.m. in front of Menard’s, 17545 S. Halsted St., after it drove away from Target, the report stated. After getting out of the vehicle, Hughes told police, “Yeah, I stole some liquor. There’s four bottles in there,” the report added.
Police recovered four, 750 ml bottles of Ciroc peach vodka—a bottle from each of Hughes’ sleeves and two from underneath his shirt, according to the report. The bottles totaled $135.96.
DUI
Brian Gallo, 34, of the 7700 block of Northfield Lane, Tinley Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Christmas Eve morning, according to Homewood police reports.
Police found Gallo sitting in the driver’s seat of his parked Honda Accord at about 4:07 a.m. in the lot at Cherry Creek Plaza, 18300 Governors Hwy., the report stated. The car’s headlights were on, and the engine was running, the report added.
The officer knocked on the car’s window several times to get Gallo’s attention, the report stated. Once he rolled down the window, Gallo told the officer he was trying to get home, according to the report. At this point, the officer claims he could smell alcohol on Gallo’s breath, and his eyes appeared to be bloodshot, the report added.
