Photo Gallery: Marian Catholic Featured on ABC7 Friday Flyover
Tracy Butler, meteorologist from ABC7 brought a team to Marian Catholic to feature students on the school's football field.
The Marian Catholic students were already tailgating in the school parking lot. No, it wasn’t a Friday night football game. It was 4AM and they were just getting ready to be featured on ABC 7 Eyewitness News for the stations Friday Flyover.
ABC 7 meteorologist Tracy Butler brought her team out to Marian Catholic on September 28th. Joining Butler was ABC 7 cameraman, Paul Martinez who is an alumnus of Marian Catholic High School.
According to Marian Catholic principal, Steve Tortorello estimates nearly 800 students turned out for the ABC7 Flyover.

“The Spartan Spirit on display was overwhelming,” said Tortorello. “ I was totally impressed by our kids' willingness to get up so early and show the world what Marian Catholic is all about. We're incredibly proud of our kids. We are the highest achieving academic high school and the most joyful, diverse student body of any school in the entire Chicago Southland and Northwest Indiana.”
From 5AM through 7AM, Tracy spent time interviewing students, parents, the principal and the now famous Sister Mary Jo Sobieck. President of Marian Catholic, Vince Krydynski joined the students for their early morning wake up call.

“ Today, approximately 80% of our students showed up at 5:00 a.m. for no other reason than to support their school, Marian Catholic, “ said Krydynski. “This is a testament to “community.” Our band performed, and our students were interviewed. What they said in their actions and words was a wonderful example of our students “preaching from the pulpit of their lives.”
As the award winning Marian Catholic band performed Hey Baby, Tracy could be seen singing along with the students. The students and band members showed three formations that could be seen from the helicopter flying above the school’s football field.
Principal Tortorello couldn’t stop smiling as the students showed their school spirit.
“The students are the lifeblood of our school,” Tortorello explained. “ Often times people compliment our staff for the great behavior and achievements of our students, but the reality is that it's all them. They're wonderful, and they inspire all of us to come to work every day.”
After the Friday Flyover ended, Tracy Butler announced that the school was serving pancakes to all of the students and they enjoyed a half day of school.
