1 Critical In Crash Involving Ambulance At Joe Orr And Ashland
A Chicago Heights man is suffering from life-threatening injuries after a crash that involved a city fire department ambulance.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A 49-year-old Chicago Heights man is in critical condition after a Sunday morning crash at the intersection of Joe Orr Road and Ashland Avenue that involved an ambulance. The man, who suffered life-threatening extensive upper body injuries and head trauma from the crash, was the driver of a gray Volkswagen that apparently collided with a Chicago Heights Fire Department ambulance.
According to Chicago Heights police, officers arrived at the scene at 9:35 a.m. to find the Volkswagen with extensive damage to its passenger side and the ambulance with extensive front-end damage. Paramedics arrived to render aid to the occupants of both vehicles.
Specific details of how the crash unfolded were not immediately available. Reports from Chicago Heights residents on social media indicate that authorities had the intersection closed for hours as the investigation began.

Police only noted the injury to the driver of the Volkswagen in a media alert. The man has been taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting the Chicago Heights Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit in investigating the crash.
