Services Set for Hillcrest Grad Killed in Crash

The high school will also retire Shannise Heady's jersey.

Wake and funeral arrangements have been set for a Hillcrest High School graduate killed last week in a car crash in Michigan.

Visitation for Shannise Heady will take place Friday, Feb. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m, at A.R. Leak Funeral Home, 18400 S. Crawford in Country Club Hills. A funeral will take place Saturday, Feb. 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Gerald’s Church, 16130 Clinton Park Avenue, in Markham.

Heady, of Hazel Crest and junior at Eastern Michigan University, was killed along with classmate Jordan Hopkins Jan. 25 when the car Heady was driving crossed the center line and struck another vehicle in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, just before 1 a.m. Sunday,Tribune Media reports.

“This is a tragic loss,” said Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jordan’s and Shannise’s families and friends at this difficult time.”

The 21-year-old had attended Seton Hall University prior to transferring to EMU in January 2013. While attending Hillcrest, Heady contributed to a four-year 116-16 record and two second-place finishes in Class 3A, Tribune Media reports.

Hillcrest High School has announced that they will retire Heady’s jersey on Friday, Feb. 13, between the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m. and varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
