South Holland Club Offers Free Wood Turning Lessons
Free woodturning lessons. Make a wood bowl.
If you are interested in turning a log into a unique work of art, Illiana Woodturners can get you started. The not-for-profit club is offering free wood lathe lessons to anyone interested in creating bowls or other wood art. The hands-on instruction will be given by Bob Bergstrom, a master turner who regularly gives demonstrations to wood turning clubs in the Chicago area.
Free, three-hour sessions are designed as an introduction to wood turning and illustrate the ease in which scrap wood can be turned into beautiful hand-made pieces. Individuals usually leave with a completed bowl at the end of one or two sessions. The lessons are given from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Woodturners’ workshop at 16236 Vincennes Avenue in South Holland. Reservations are recommended (call 708-597-9049).
Illiana Woodturner club membership is $50 per year and members enjoy hands-on turning lessons and demonstrations year round. Visit the South Suburban Chiselers/Illiana Woodturners Facebook page for more details.
