South Suburban Humane Society Takes in 20 Dogs Rescued from Puppy Mill
Dogs rescued from an alleged puppy mill in St. Anne have a second chance at a happy life.

Animals pulled from a heartbreaking case of animal cruelty in Kankakee County have brighter days ahead, with the help of South Suburban Humane Society in Chicago Heights.
The shelter this week took in 20 animals in need of new homes—and plenty of TLC—following the removal of 80 dogs from a puppy mill in St. Anne, Illinois.
“We are incredibly grateful to Animal Rescue Corps for the amazing work they’re doing all across the country every day for animals in need,” the shelter posted on its Facebook page.

Among the 20 now housed at the shelter is Esmeralda, a chihuahua who gave birth to puppies Sunday. Esmeralda and her pups are now in the loving hands of a foster.
Dogs rescued from the facility were mostly small breeds found living three or four to a cage: Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus and Yorkies. Most had skin conditions from sitting in their own urine and feces. That also caused urine burns, eye issues and respiratory issues.

Some of the animals at South Suburban Humane Society are in need of medical treatment, and the shelter is seeking donations to help pay for their care.
