Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra will close its 2014-2015 season with master classes with guest artist Hal Grossman on Saturday April 25, stretching class/workshop for violinists from 3:30-4:30pm, master class for students of The Music Connection, and a Sunday April 26 at 4PM featuring Hal Grossman as soloist performing Concerto in G Major by Haydn with Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The stretching class given is a mini workshop component of the full Grossman Method© which incorporates kinesthetic awareness into violin

and viola training to alleviate stress, reduce anxiety and prevent injury. Violinists and violists from high school age on can learn to recognize muscle tension and relieve that tension before it leads to pain and discomfort. Students learn to channel nervous energy via muscle awareness, breathing exercises and mental conditioning.

As a Yoga Ed Certified Instructor, Hal combines his professional career as a violinist with a deep understanding of the body and how it should function during performance.

Hal Grossman has been hailed by critics for his “tremendous virtuosic technique” and“outstanding artistic sense.” Currently Professor of Violin at the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Grossman was formerly Professor of Violin at the Interlochen Arts Academy and Miami University. Mr. Grossman has also held concertmaster positions with the Estranach Festival in Luxembourg, Illinois Philharmonic, the Lansing and Saginaw Symphonies.

Master classes featuring students of Suburban Youth Symphony will be held from 1:30-3:00PM on Saturday April 25. This is followed by the stretching class for violinist and violists from 3:30PM-4:30PM. Music Connection students will perform at Master class beginning at 4:45PM. Master classes will be held at The Music Connection, 9370 W. Laraway Road, Frankfort, Illinois 60423.

Sunday April 26 concert featuring Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra and Mr. Grossman will be held at Faith United Methodist Church 15101 80th Avenue, Orland Park, Illinois at 4PM.

Saturday Master classes are open to the public. Violin and viola players 13 and older are welcome to attend the stretching class: RSVP via email at theSYSO@gmail.com before April 23.

Tickets for Sunday’s concert can be purchased at the door or on line at www.suburbanyouthsymphony.org Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
