Traffic Pattern Changes Made Near Western Avenue School, Flossmoor Park: Village
The changes are to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance pedestrian safety.
FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Village of Flossmoor this week implemented traffic pattern changes near Western Avenue School and Flossmoor Park to improve safety for pedestrians, students and motorists in the community.
The changes were effective Monday, April 20, at 2 a.m., and include:
- Vardon Place is now a one-way, westbound-only street from Western Avenue to Brassie Avenue.
- Brassie Avenue is a one-way, southbound-only street from Vardon Place to Flossmoor Road.
- No parking is permitted on the residential sides of both Vardon Place and Brassie Avenue to ensure safe traffic flow and allow for emergency-vehicle access.
To enhance student safety near Western Avenue School, special loading and unloading provisions will also be in effect:

- Location: North side of Vardon Place
- Days: School days only
- Times: 8-9 a.m. & 2:30-3:30 p.m.
The designated days and times will allow parents and guardians to safely drop off and pick up students on the north side of the street closest to the school, the Village said. During these hours on school days, only loading and unloading will be permitted. Signage will soon be installed along Vardon Place to clearly indicate the loading and unloading restrictions. Outside of these hours, regular parking will be permitted on the north side of Vardon Place. Parking is also permitted along the west side of Brassie Avenue.
The Village said the changes were implemented to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance safety for students, educators, residents and visitors.
