Two Die in a Post-Prom Head-On Collision Saturday in the South Suburbs

Aaron Dunigan, 18, and a 56-year-old man from Calumet City were killed. One teen faces charges of driving under influence of drugs.

An 18-year-old Thornton Fractional High School student died in a head-on collision after prom Saturday morning. A 56-year-old man from Calumet City also died in the crash.

Aaron K. Dunigan, who quarterbacked Thornton’s football team, was a front-seat passenger in a car with two other teen-aged boys when their car crossed the center line in the 700 block of State Street and struck a pickup truck driven by Juan Jose Rivera, according to police, at about 6:40 a.m.

Dunigan was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Rivera was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m. according to the the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police said marijuana was found on the driver of the car, David Peden, who is in Franciscan St. Margaret Hospital in Indiana.

Peden is charged with driving under the influence of drugs, reports the Northwest Indiana Times. More charges could be filed.
