Two H-F Students Named National Merit Commended Students
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition.

FLOSSMOOR, IL _ Principal Dr. Clinton Alexander of Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School announced today that two of the school’s seniors — Fatima Hernandez and Faye Wettstein — have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented to the students in October.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students across the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2023 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last school year.
Both students are studying as part of H-F’s Class of 2023 International Baccalaureate cohort. Fatima also takes Project Lead the Way Engineering classes, and Faye also studies AP Art History and Ceramics/Sculpture at H-F.
