Village Warns Of Email Scam Targeting Business License, Permit Applicants

Someone impersonating Homewood employees contacts applicants to deceive them into providing sensitive information or sending payments.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood is warning of an email scam targeting applicants for business licenses and permits.

The Village on Wednesday said they'd learned of fraudulent emails being sent to applicants, by individuals impersonating Village employees.

The messages are part of a scam designed to deceive recipients into providing sensitive information, clicking malicious links, or sending payments to unauthorized parties.

The Village reminds applicants that it will not initiate permit or business license communications requesting payment via unsolicited email.

All official payments related to permits, licenses, and other Village services are processed exclusively through the Village’s SmartGov platform.
