Weekend of Bargains and BBQ
Glenwood Lions Club Annual Ribfest XXVI, Car Show, Village-Wide Garage Sales, Flea Market, Rummage Sale, Document Shredding Weekend
September 11-13 Community-Wide Event includes Lions Club 26th Annual RibFest Glenwood, IL – It's going to be a busy, flavorful weekend in Glenwood! From Friday September 11 through Sunday September 13, participants can clean up, clean out, sell, shred and, on Saturday, relax with a home-cooked rib dinner. Glenwood residents will open their garages and yards after dawn on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a community-wide Yard Sale, upcycling hundreds of goods, including furniture, sports equipment, kitchen items, children's clothing and more, to buyers from all over Chicagoland looking for a great deal. Residents must simply call Village Hall to have their name added to a list of participating homes. Yard and garage sale permits are no longer necessary for this weekend only. Many Glenwood residents take advantage of this and do a fantastic job putting items they no longer want or need into the hands of people who do. It's a very popular event. Deal-seekers can cruise the residential streets of Glenwood, easily accessible from I-294, I-80, I-394 and I-94, and find hundreds of sales, offering goods at a fraction of their original cost. This is a cost-effective way to outfit a college apartment and discover craftable items. On Saturday, from 10 am to noon, visitors to the Village Hall at One Asselborn Way, near the intersection of Main and Rebecca Streets, can bring up to 4 boxes of documents to take advantage of free Pro Shred shredding services. Documents will be destroyed onsite. Participants will be prompted to provide their name and mailing address to have their Certificate of Destruction mailed to their homes. No electronics or computers will be accepted that day, but are always accepted at Village Hall during normal business hours. As part of Saturday's 26th annual RibFest, the Garage Sale extends to Glenwood Plaza, 183rd Street and Halsted, where selling booths will be open from 7 am to 3 pm. From 11 am to 4 pm, diners can purchase meals of half or full slabs of homemade ribs, corn on the cob and beans, sponsored by the local Lions Club. Hamburgers and hot dogs will also be available.
