'World's Tallest Chef' Mourns Death of Father and Mentor, 70

Melvyn Goldfarb pushed son Jeff to think outside the box and explore the art of cooking.

Longtime Homewood resident Jeff Goldfarb—also known as the World’s Tallest Chef—has announced the passing of his father, 70-year-old Melvyn Joel Goldfarb.

In a heartbreaking tribute to his father, Goldfarb described him as a “mentor,” who suffered a yearlong battle with leukemia before succumbing Monday, August 18.

“He inspired myself a 7-foot tall man to follow in his footsteps and become a chef instead of playing a basketball,” Goldfarb wrote.

He was known for his ”colorful, yet tacky looking loud shirts.” Though Melvyn inspired Jeff’s passion for cooking, their competitive spirits kept them from sharing a kitchen.
