This week, the Illinois House of Representatives passed legislation backed by State Representative Jeff Keicher to create safeguards to protect children from the dangers of social media addiction. House Bill 5511 creates the Children’s Social Media Safety Act.

“Social media addiction has become a major problem, especially for children with developing brains that are being fed content to deliberately drive that addiction,” said Keicher. “Safeguards are needed, and I supported this legislation as a step in the right direction to protect children from these addictive algorithms and empower parents, as they should be, to protect their children.”
