Today, the Illinois House of Representatives committee for Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges unanimously passed legislation carried by State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) to honor the memory of DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina M. “Beana” Musil. Deputy Musil was tragically killed by a drunk driver in the line of duty on March 28, 2024.
“The death of DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina ‘Beana’ Musil was a profound tragedy that devastated our community,” said Keicher. “I remember attending the memorial service that was held after her passing and being awestruck by the outpouring of love and respect for the dedication this incredible person brought to serving others. Her life was a true embodiment of what it means to serve.”
Musil was 35 at the time of her death, having served with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office for five years. A U.S. Army National Guard veteran, she also served in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.
To honor her memory, Senate Joint Resolution 35 Designates State Route 23 from Perry Road to McGirr Road as the "Deputy Sheriff Christina Musil Memorial Highway."
“While naming a road in her honor is a small gesture, it is the least we can do to honor the life of someone who helped so many others in life,” said Keicher. “She set an incredible example for her children and our community. May her memory live on.”
While Keicher is carrying the legislation in the House, he expressed thanks to State Senator Sue Rezin, who carried the measure in the Senate. Having passed the committee unanimously, once SJR 35 passes the full House of Representatives, it will be sent to the Illinois Department of Transportation to erect the signage honoring Musil.
