Huntley Board Bites: New Fishing Law in Effect

Huntley has a new law for anyone fishing in its ponds and a new program to keep its roads clean.

Trustees recently adopted an ordinance that limits fishing to catch and release only in village ponds. The ponds affected include those in the Southwind and Wing Pointe subdivisions, officials said.

The ordinance also requires all regulations of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources be followed. Anyone in violation faces a minimum fine of $250.

Ponds owned by homeowners associations are not affected but may have other requirements.

The new program aimed at cleaning up roadway is the Adopt-A-Highway Program where volunteers help with trash collection on designated village roads. Volunteer groups can adopt a one to two mile section of roadway to clean up twice a year, in April for Earth Day and in October, officials said.

Signs with the group’s name will be posted on the roadway adopted, officials said.
