Huntley Falls to 0-4
Red Raiders manage just 18 yards of offense in 48-12 loss to Crystal Lake South
Huntley came into Friday’s Fox Valley Conference Valley
Division game with Crystal Lake South looking to improve on their performance from last week against Prairie Ridge, where the Red Raiders only managed a safety.
Things for Huntley started bad and got worse as the game
wore on as the Gators pounded Huntley 48-12 to send the Red Raiders to 0-4 on the year. South, who improved to 4-0, had Brad Walovitch bobble the opening kickoff but recovered and ran it back 85 yards to give South a 7-0 lead 15 seconds into the game. Huntley rallied after getting an interception by Gabriel Ortiz. Ethan Connor ran up the middle and fumbled the football but James Davis recovered and ran it 16 yards to pull Huntley within 7-6. That would be as close as the Red Raiders would get as South countered four minutes later on a
21-yard run by Karl Mikulec to take a 14-6 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Huntley turned it over on three straight plays and South took advantage to take a 42-6 lead by halftime. One bright spot in the second half was a 90-yard kickoff return by John Walker in the third quarter to give Huntley their only other points of the game. Huntley managed just 18 yards of offense while South racked up 349 yards. Huntley coach Matt Gehrig said his team got beat the whole night.

“They were able to get some defensive line pressure on us
and we just got beat up front,” Gehrig said. “A couple of those times, we just didn’t have any time to get the ball off.”
Gehrig added though that there were some positives to take
from the loss.

“We came out in the second half and guys tried to play
physical and we stopped the run a bit,” Gehrig said. “There are still some guys on the team who are still fighting to the end. That’s a positive.”
The Red Raiders have struggled with injury trouble all
season and the trend continued Friday night and Gehrig said that more kids have had to play because of the injuries.
“It’s been a tough year from an injury standpoint,” Gehrig
said. “We’ve had guys consistently missing time so we’re rolling a lot of young guys in that don’t have a lot of experience. They’re getting a chance to play and against real competitive football teams.”
Huntley will face Dundee-Crown next week in a battle of teams at 0-4 on the year.
