Huntley Police Blotter: Tax Filing Uncovers Identity Theft

Huntley police release reports for April 17-22.

 

A Huntley woman got a surprise when filing her tax returns: someone already filed a return in her name, police said.

Police are investigating the identity theft involving someone who used the victim’s social security number to file the return, reports stated. The victim, of the 10600 block of Mayfield Lane, filed a report April 17.

In other reports released this week:

  • A resident of the 13200 block of Meadowlark Lane reported someone damaged his front door and door frame on April 17, police said.
  • A Huntley man, of the 12700 block of Cold Springs Drive, discovered someone made unauthorized purchases on his credit card, police said. He filed a report April 18.
  • Cash was stolen during a residential burglary in the 11100 block of Grove St. on April 18, police said.
  • A credit card fraud report was taken in the 10000 block of Thornton Way April 18, according to reports.  The victim stated that his credit card was used for two unauthorized charges.
  • Someone stole an iPod touch at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road on April 19, police said.
  • A criminal damage to property report was taken near the intersection of Rt. 47 and North St. on April 22, according to reports.  The victim reported damage to his vehicle appears to have been caused by a BB gun or pellet gun.
